Essence Look at Me Lipstick 40 Review & Swatches

Essence 40 Look at Me  Lipstick Review

Guest Post by Christina
This is a product that I got as a gift from my sister in law who lives in Belgium.  I am not familiar with their products but after using the lipstick and reading others reviews I found it to be a good product. It is produced in Germany and is mostly sold in the E.U. and in the U.S.  The one reason I decided to review this lipstick was because of their devotion to the 'cruelty against animals' cause.  For those of your who do not know me I am an animal activist and I have stopped using animal tested products.  Essence is strictly against any kind of animal testing whatsoever.  It is absolutely awful to torture animals for the sake of beauty products

Their products stand for trendy and high quality cosmetics at a sensational low prices because they do not use costly advertisements using models or celebrities, expensive tv spots or print ads in magazines.

Product Description:
# 40 Look at Me is part of the 2012 spring/summer collection.   I used an Essence  product for the first time.  I liked how it felt and if given a chance I would like to try out other colours and a different finish, because frosty lipsticks are for a younger lot than me.  I would not even feel guilty about over spending because essence products are a  fantastic buy for makeup fanatics looking to stock up on a budget.

They have added two more shades to their spring/summer collection and so all of the 16 colors have been bumped up to the fall/winter season 2012.

Price & Quantity: $ 2.49, $4 AUD  for 4 gms

Key Ingredients: Not mentioned on the tube but it is mentioned in a PDF file on the site.  Few key ingredients would be castor seed oil, lanolin, paraffin, carnauba wax and avocado oil. The rest are chemical names.

My Experience with Essence 40 Look at Me Lipstick :

Packaging: These lipsticks come in color-coded packaging.  That means the lipstick tube is the exact same color as the lipstick making it easy to reach for your favourite shade. When you open the tube, the top half of the inner tube is plastic and it is not a problem really.  You can see how much product is left at all times.  My only problem is that these lipsticks do not come with any kind of seal!

Colour, Consistency & Texture: It is a sizzling sheer beige-brown that lights up your lips with a soft gleam.  It is a frosty lipstick with some shimmer but it is not over the top at all.  If you are looking for a creamy nude color that doesn't lean too pink or too beige this is definitely it.  Almost close to MAC blankety lipstick excluding the frost and the cheap price.  I hardly got any smell when I used it.   In the pictures I have also lined my lips with a bit of a rose coloured liner and that totally changed how the colour looked on my lips.  I was quite happy to use it like that.

How it works: This lipstick is soft and velvety to apply.  It does contain shimmer along with being frosty.  It does not settle in lip lines but one must exfoliate the lips before using this.  Frosty colours do tend to draw an audience and you wouldn't want dry flaky bits of skin peeking out from beneath it would you?

Makeup and Beauty Home Rating: 3.55

Would I Repurchase Essence 40 Look at Me Lipstick ? Yes and no.  No, not that colour but yes different shades and other products by the brand.

A note of warning: Frosty and shimmery high gloss lipsticks look best on the young because these draw a great deal of attention to lips so becareful when you select lipstick.  It is not just about color but also about the finish. As you age you cannot ignore the fact that certain colours become a total no no. Matte lipstick is best on certain age groups and so are glossy, high sheen lipstick styles.
It's only a while before you will start seeing this brand on our online cosmetics shopping sites, something like ELF that has flooded the market.  You can visit the website for more information. It is a very, very pretty and fresh site and I am sure all of you are going to go bonkers looking at it.

Avon Simply Pretty Color Last Lipstick Almond Beige Review & FOTD

Guest Post by Barisha

Avon Simply Pretty Color Last Lipstick Almond Beige Review

Hello lovely ladies.. How are you all? Hope you all are fine. I am back with another review today and this review is on an Avon lippy. To be very frank I am not too much into makeup. For me applying a lil compact, eyeliner and kajal is more than enough. Somehow I always think whenever I apply lipstick it makes me look more ugly :P But this lippy just proved me that was wrong: and I am really happy for that. Today I am going to review this on my favorite blog, of course here at  Makeup and Beauty Home :D Okay, now let us see how it works on me. Keep reading!

Product Description:
  • Get velvety color that lasts long, stays fresh and keeps lips soft and moisturized.
  • Gentle long-lasting lipstick with anti-oxidants and SPF 12 UVA/UVB
  • Lasts up to 4 hours
  • Transfer resistant

Price: Rs.299

Shade: Almond Beige

My Experience with this Product:

Packaging: It comes in a dark violet pack. The packaging looks okay and it is sturdy enough to be travel friendly; no complaints.

Colour and Texture: The colour of this Almond Beige lipstick from Avon justifies the name. It actually looks like almond but after applying on the lips it looks so different. Sometimes it looks pinkish brown sometimes orangish brown. Sometimes brown! No I am getting confused :P I am very poor at describing colours so have a look at my swatch and FOTD. The texture is of lipstick is so creamy, buttery and soft. It is so soft that it tends to break or melt if not stored in refrigerator.

How it works: One can easily apply this lipstick over their lips without any hardness as it glides in a smooth manner. This lipstick is nicely pigmented and stays on my lips for 3-4 hours as per the claims. This shade suits almost every Indian skin type and thus can be wore daily for casual outings and even for work. Overall, this lipstick suits everyone beautifully and the lippy beginners out there can pick this without any second thought.

FOTD:

This is how it looks on me and sorry I was damn tired at that time!

Now come, let us discuss about the pros and cons.

How to Use Your Lipstick as Blush? Tutorial & FOTD

Hello damsels! Good Evening.
I am totally in love with the weather here. It is neither too cold, nor hot but just moderately cold with romantic breezes everywhere. From morning, I was searching some online shopping sites for a peachy pink blush for my dusky-dark skin. To be frank, I am blush beginner and I guess it will turn into a kind of addiction soon. :)
While searching for blushes, I suddenly got a thought 'Why not to use lipstick as blush?' and that's it! I started surfing over net about the same. I came across few interesting posts where girls use their lipstick as blush but I was a little confused that using thick lipsticks might clog the pores. My another doubt was that how come a lipstick blend much easily as a cream blush. After 2 hours of experimenting, I finally found the way now :) I am glad to share with you all, the tricks of using your lipstick as blush today. Go ahead!

Tricks for Using Your Lipstick as Blush

Choose the Right Shade
Unlike the cream blushes, lipsticks are more pigmented and thick. So make sure to swatch them on your wrist and choose the perfect shade for you. If you wish to mix and match with two or more shades, go ahead but make sure that the lipsticks you choose for blushing are from a good brand those never caused you any allergy.

Better Go for Glossy Lipsticks
Instead of picking the matte ones, go for some sheer glossy sheer lipsticks as these are easy to blend smoothly. If you go with matte, you will have a hard time blending it and that too with streaky, patchy finish. I haven't chosen a  glossy lipstick, but picked one pink-fuchsia one from Deborah Milano with no shimmers or glitters. I was wearing a pink chudi today and hence to match with that, I did chose this lippy.

Steps:

  • Cleanse your face with a gentle makeup removing cleanser and pat dry.

  • Apply your moisturizer. If you have oily skin, go for a water based or gel based moisturizer whereas dry skin types can use a creamy one. You shouldn't skip moisturizing before using your lipstick as your blush because the blending happens with ease and gives a smooth finish in proper moisturized skin. In this FOTD, I am not wearing anything other than my moisturizer on my facial skin, so please bear with the imperfections. I tried to make this look more simple and natural and hence I skipped foundation, concealer, compact and such.

  • Now comes the blushing part. If you have oily skin, squeeze a small quantity of your makeup primer on your palm. Dry skinned beauties can use your regular moisturizer of even a baby lotion. Now with your clean finger tips, dab the lipstick a little and mix it with your primer/lotion. This is your cream blush now!

  • Dot your cream blush (made of lipstick + primer/moisturizer) on the apples of your cheek as shown in the below picture. I am not an expert at blushing so if you have any better idea, go for that. Just dotting and blending works perfectly for me. After dotting, blend the blush gently till your skin absorbs it. You can apply some more for heavier colour pay off however a subtle shade would do best for everyday use. Here in this FOTD, I used the blush a bit more to get captured well in the photos.

  • That's it! You're all done now. Pair it up with your favorite lipstick (Or the same lipstick you used for your blush? I am not sure) and top it up with a glossy lip gloss. I have used one of my favorite pink-fuchsia shaded, Deborah Milano Rossetto 24OREpowder Long Lasting Lipstick in Shade 07 my as blush here; and the same lipstick on the lips with Faces Glam Lip Gloss Shade 044 on top. If you wish, you can pat your face with a compact to avoid the semi-dewy look of your lipstick blush however I preferred a natural FOTD here, so avoided any compact touch ups here though I have a little oily skin.

Note: I didn't use my primer here so I first tried to mix my lipstick with a facial moisturizer to use it the similar way we use cream blushes but this ended up in giving a over dewy finish on my normal-oily skin. So if you're oily skinned, better go for a water based moisturizer or a water based skin gel. I have used the Prakriti Herbals Rose Aloe Vera Soothing Gel here.

Okay now comes some more pictures :) Hope I am not scaring you anyone.

This lipstick-blush stays well for 5-8 hours depending on the pigmentation and staying power of the lipstick you use to make your blush and gets easily removed with a baby lotion or your regular makeup cleanser.
