Cosmedic... A Dermatologists' Take on Cosmetics...

Scrubs always attract me, owing to the fact that scrubs polish the skin. I picked this product with the attraction towards the scrub that is visible through its package tube.

Claims about Lotus Herbals Berryscrub:

For skin that looks as great as it feels, try our BERRYSCRUB. The creamy lather cleanses and natural exfoliators polish your skin to reveal dazzling complexion.

Active Herbal Ingredients:

Strawberry Seeds: Exfoliating agent removes dead skin cells. Prevents formation of blackheads and gives instant glow.

Aloe Vera: Excellent moisturising and skin healing properties, anti-inflammatory and soothing properties.

Lemon Extract: Antioxidant, natural skin cleanser.

Orange Peel Extract: Good antimicrobial and anti- inflammatory properties.

My Experience with Lotus Herbals Berryscrub:

Packaging: Lotus Herbals Berryscrub comes in a soft press able plastic tube which is partially see-through. The tube has a flip cap with a hole for the product to run out. The details about the product and brand are printed on the top side of the tube body with an attractive shiny finish.

Colour, Consistency & Fragrance: The color of the scrub product is transparent base with brown-orange mixed type of scrubbing particles. The base is like a gel.

The consistency is very thin and runny. You tilt the tube, all the product inside the tube runs from one side to another. Though the base looks like a gel, it is very watery.

The fragrance of the product is somewhere in between mild to strong. The name of the scrub says Strawberry and Aloe vera, forget aloe vera, there is no smell of strawberry too on my smelling senses. There is some amount of sour fruity scent indicating the lemon and orange extracts being present.

 

How it works: Lotus Herbals Berryscrub Face Wash lathers minimum. The scrub granules are of mixed shape and sharpness. There are some which are a little big than needed for face scrubbing and they are sharp too. These scrub the face a little more that needed. The package says All Skin Types; definitely no, the scrub is a little harsh on the dry skin. Also it is not suitable during winter for removing the dead skin flakes. This is a good product for oily skin. My skin felt more dry and stretchy after washing with this product.

But, I have found another way of using this product, as a body scrub. This gives a very good massaging sensation when rubbed on the body. You can skip your usual body wash the day you introduce this Lotus scrub. It scrubs and washes too very well. The much needed scrubbing for heels, elbow, knee joint, and back of the neck is done by Lotus Herbals Berryscrub Face Wash.

 

PROS of Lotus Herbals Berryscrub:

• Easy handling tube package with flip cap.
• See though tube.
• Mixed type of scrub.
• Gel based.
• Available at good price.
• Makes a very good body scrub.
• Removes dead cells and leaves the skin soft when used as a body scrub.

• Not a good face scrub.
• There are some harsh scrub particles which are not suitable for face scrubbing.
• Suitable for oily skin, not good for dry skin.

Flu During Pregnancy May Trigger Autism

 Birth of a child with autism can be caused by health conditions of pregnant women. Flu during pregnancy may trigger autism, especially the flu is transmitted. Doubled risk having a child with autism compared with mothers who did not catch the flu. Although the study did not demonstrate a causal relationship but experts say pregnant women should get the flu vaccine.

The study was conducted by a team from Denmark and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention that analyzed more than 97,000 children aged 8-14 years who were born in Denmark between 1997 and 2003. Only one percent of the children were diagnosed with autism spectrum.

The research team interviewed the mothers about the presence or absence of infection and high fever during pregnancy and after childbirth, as well as whether they have ever put on antibiotics.

The question posed to mothers reached 200 questions to seek information about different types of infections during pregnancy.

Although the study was not designed for a case of the flu, but it turns out the women who claimed to have suffered from the flu while pregnant two times greater risk of having a child with autism. Those suffering from fever for a week before the third trimester, the risk of having a child with autism tripled.

Animal studies indicate infant brains infected when the mother's immune system during pregnancy to be active, such as fighting infection. This means that the mother's immune system may play a major role in the development of the baby.

"Research on the link between flu during pregnancy and autism are very attractive because of the scientific evidence in animals that autism is linked to immunological factors that affect infant brain development," said Dr. Susan Hyman, president of the American Academy of Pediatrics subcommittee autism.

However experts say the evidence that the flu during pregnancy triggers autism are less strong. Because it's women who have children with autism do not blame themselves.

"Quite a lot of the symptoms are mistaken for influenza fever and not all women infected with influenza virus notice. Addition, the link between antibiotics and autism has never been found," he said.

Provision of drugs during pregnancy is limited, but expectant mothers suffering from high fever or flu should not be afraid of seeing a doctor to get proper treatment.

In general, pregnant women can increase their immunity against illness by getting a flu shot and get enough rest. Flu vaccine is not only effective for the mother but also will protect infants until six months after birth.

Pollution Increase the Risk of Autism in Children

Autism that occurs in children is not clear cause and how to prevent it. Risks associated with autistic children, since children in the womb until the age of one year are exposed to air pollution from highways or other sources more prone to develop autism compared to children whose exposure to lower pollution. The researchers revealed that chemicals in pollutants will trigger genetic changes in the conditions of autism. Although it does not cause autism directly, but it does increase the risk.

"There is evidence that the immune system is associated with autism and pollution affected the same way," says lead researcher Heather Volk, assistant professor of the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles, USA.

In his research, Volks and his team analyzed the association between air pollution exposure in 279 children with autism were compared with 245 healthy children. The children were participating in a study on the risk of autism, genetic and environmental.

To measure the high pollution exposure in children, the researchers interviewed their mothers. While air pollution levels of water quality data obtained from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Children who are exposed to high levels of pollution in the womb for two times greater risk of suffering from autism compared with children whose exposure is low. Meanwhile, children are exposed to pollutants from birth until the age of one year, mainly highway pollution, three times greater risk of developing autism.

Strongest relation to nitrogen dioxide is suspected or known to the smog (fog containing air pollutant).

Packaging: A circular tube with circular patterns all over the tube is the packaging of Maybelline Lip Smooth Color & Care lip balm. The tube is a twist up one with a plastic pressing cap. The cap shuts with a click.

Colour, Texture & Fragrance: Cranberry Jam is a bright pink shade. However, it is not very bright on the lips. The consistency of the lip balm is very thin and it very light on the lips too. Though it is a lip balm, it does not have that thick waxy texture. Maybelline Lip Smooth Lip Balm forms a thin coat like an oil film. The fragrance is exactly similar to the fruity scent. The smell is very light which stays for sometime and then vanishes off.

How it works: Maybelline Lip Smooth Color & Care is a moderate lip balm. Those who do not need heavy lip treatment can easily use this product. It moisturizes the lips good enough. Maybelline Lip Smooth serves both the purpose, gives the color to the lips and also glossy finish.

It stays on for at least 3 hours with some fading. When it fades, it does not leave the lips dry or flaky.

The re applying of this product is also easy. A little twist up from he tube and a gentle swipe on the lips will do the job. There is no fear of color going too dark on the lips. The product is very travel friendly too. No worrying about the cap getting opened or product spilling out or even melting in its tube.

Overall, I adore this product just the way it is.

Today, I am reviewing the Deborah Milano Trio Super Iridescent Wet & Dry Eye Shadow in shade number 9, named Peach Passion. I have been using this trio eyeshadow palette from Deborah Milano for more than 3 months and here comes my experience with this product.

My Experience with Deborah Milano Hi-Tech Trio Eyeshadow in Peach Passion:

Packaging: This baked trio eyeshadows come in a beautiful rounded eyeshadow palette with a transparent glass lid opening that makes it easy to view the shades from outside. They have provided a double tipped brush applicator which is bent and small. I loved the packaging the the applicator brush is of okay-okay quality.


Colour, Texture & Pigmentation: This peach passion trio consists of three shades; one is a deep chocolate brown with tiny shimmers, the next one is a peachy pink shade with shimmers and the last one, looked like an off white shade with tiny pink and purple shimmers on it. Among these three shades, the brown is the most pigmented one and shows up very well. The peachy pink one doesn't show up as brown and makes the palette bit messy with its fallout and the last shade, doesn't show up at all no matter how many times I swipe it; it hardly shows on my lid. When tried wet, these three has a good color pay off. They all have a smooth texture and spreads smoothly over the eyelids.

How they work: We have already discussed about the shades and pigmentation; so let me come straight to its staying power. The staying power varies from shade to shade. All these three have different staying powers. The deep pigmentation brown with shimmers, stays good for 6-7 hours and even more when used wet. The two other shades, I cannot clearly guess their staying power as they didn't show well fist of all. The shimmers are visible, but subtle on the lids making these shades look natural. I always loved this deep brown shade personally and overall, I am happy with this eyeshadow palette. Though this is not a best one for the price, the quality of the shades are good; I am just simply not satisfied about the pigmentation of the other two shades.


EOTD with Deborah Milano Hi-Tech Trio Eyeshadow in Peach Passion:

Sorry I don't remember what I have done with these trio shades :P This was clicked long ago; but I just mixed and matched all the three shades to present this EOTD.

• Come in an attractive rounded pallete with a see through glass lid
• The applicator provided is of good quality; not the best, but good.
• Sturdy and travel friendly packaging
• The brown in the palette is a beautiful deep shade with subtle glowy shimmers
• The staying powder is good; especially the brown one stays long
• Texture of these shades are smooth 
• When used wet, all the three has a good colour pay off and stays long

CONS of Deborah Milano Hi-Tech Trio Eyeshadow in Peach Passion:

• Expect the brown one, the other two shades are badly pigmented when used dry
• I expected a little more staying power, atleast for the price
• The peachy pink shade that contains more shimmers, causes fallout and make the palette messy.

Nope I wont; but I am definitely eying out for the other shades from their brand which are more pigmented compared to this.

I am not sure. If you would like to have one well pigmented shade and two other subtle soft shades on your trio to make a subtle eye makeup look, this might be your perfect pick.

My Experience with Lotus Herbals Seduction Botanical Tinted Lip Gloss in Berry Smoothie:

Packaging: The packaging is quite sturdy and simple and is absolutely safe to carry in your handbag. The body of the container is transparent showing the color and the quantity left.

Color, Consistency & Fragrance: Berry Smoothie is a pink colored gloss. The consistency is semi-solid and not too runny, making the application easy. It has mild floral fragrance that does not bother at all.

How it works: I am personally not a lip gloss person. At times I get attracted seeing their display at counters. So, this was one of my impulsive shopping. But definitely I was not let down by this. The gloss has a doe-foot applicator. The applicator picks up enough product on the first go. Nevertheless, the color can be built with two or more swipes. This is my on-the-go lip gloss..when I don't want anything heavy on my lips.  It does not give heavy coverage, so not very suitable for pigmented lips. I use a concealer pencil beneath to get a neat even coverage. It lasts for 2-3 hours without meals/drinks in between.This can be applied over a lippie but I do not prefer it that way. The gloss contains mild shimmer that doesn't show-up evidently when applied.

In The Spotlight: MAC Club Eye Shadow

Welcome to another edition of "In The Spotlight" and today we are featuring MAC Club eye shadow. When you google MAC Club, you come across mixed reviews about this shade and almost negligible reviews from Indian blogs. We Indians are I guess still exploring the possibilities with makeup and tend to walk on the safe path... Especially for products that cost the earth, we like to checkout reviews online extensively and look at swatches after swatches and then finally go with a shade that seems to be the most popular with all beauty bloggers... We all end up with similar shades of eye shadows like Naked Lunch, Mythology, Expensive Pink, Cork, Carbon Black, Folie, Texture, Rice Paper to name a few...

Now this doesn't quite work for me... Why, I don't know but it just doesn't... Now am not saying don't read reviews on beauty blogs, rather if I said that then I would be putting my feet on the "kulhari" myself :P But what I want to tell you all is that read reviews about a product, but check out swatches in person at the store... For example, review of one MAC eye shadow will be the same for all eye shadows! They are awesome! PERIOD... Browse through various EOTDs but swatch them on yourself before yo buy it cause when you go on a swatching spree at MAC you discover hidden jewels like Nylon, Club, Patina, Green Smoke, Ego, Honesty to name a few :)

So anyways, I got myself this magical eye shadow quite a while back and have even reviewed it here...
REVIEW OF MAC CLUB

The "magical" thing about this eye shadow is that on its own its a pretty, light mossy green eye shadow but when you apply it over a black base, then the shade of green that it takes on is just plain exotic and mysterious :)

Take a look at my EOTD below... It's an attempt at smokey eye and quite a good one that too... Yup I have always been the humble one ;) Now would you believe it if I said that only one shadow i.e. MAC Club has been used to create this smokey eye and no other eye shadow.. Not even black... Yes of course I have used a highlighter shade but thats it! The dimensions this eye shadow gives you is just unparalleled and I am totally smitten by it...

Australia, Cigarettes Without the Logo and Colors

 

Health News: In smoking prevention efforts, many countries are going to act, one Australia. Australia became the first country in the world to require plain packaging for tobacco products. Since that time, the cigarettes without the logo and colors, banned tobacco companies featured in the packaging.

Instead, the cigarette packaging there would be adverse effects picture smoking, and anti-smoking messages. Cigarette companies just got a little place at the bottom of cigarette packs to write down the name and its variants.

Cigarette companies are also prohibited from sponsoring sports and cultural events since 1992.

Regulation of plain packaging has long been a target of the Australian Government. The effort was led by Nicola Roxon, the health minister at the time, whose father, Jack, died of diseases caused by smoking when he was 10 years old.

Government "State Kangaroo" was also determined to reduce the number of smokers from 16 percent in 2007 to less than 10 percent by 2018.

In May 2011, the board issued a study on cancer Australia plain packaging on cigarette packs. The results of the study showed that packs big role to persuade teens to try smoking.

Australian Government's decision was opposition from the tobacco industry. Consortium of major tobacco companies, such as Philip Morris, Imperial Tobacco and British American Tobaco (BAT), come together to make a plan against the decision.

"Plain packaging has been misconstrued and it's not going to stop because the brand of cigarette smokers will still appear. Addition, the tobacco companies will also seek to remain competitive, partly by cutting prices," said Scott McIntyre, spokesman for BAT.

Besides Australia, the UK, France, Norway, India, and New Zealand are also planning to implement plain packaging cigarettes.

Yet researchers say that more in-depth research is needed to ascertain this study. Also uncertain whether the fluctuations in heart rate and blood pressure experienced by the respondents in this study can be considered a threat to heart health.

My Experience with Etude House Lovely Cookie Blusher in Grapefruit Jelly:

Packaging: This is one of the most cutest blushes I own! It comes in a round, soft pink plastic blush pan with a frosted semi transparent lid that shuts tightly. They have provided a cute white puff applicator with this blush and I love it the most. The puff is so soft and has a tiny pink bow on the top of it. Though it looks cute, it is not that useful when it comes to application of the blush. I would suggest a good quality blush brush anytime.

Colour, Texture & Pigmentation: I have no clue why they have named this shade as Grapefruit Jelly but from my view, it looks as a nice matte pink shade which has a slight hint of coral (more on the paler side) with no glitters or shimmers. It is not that chalky but settles matte. This shade looks super natural and is averagely pigmented. And I forget to mention one thing; this blush is fragrance free!

Swatch:

How it works: Though I loved this blush's packaging, shade and etc, this is not MY shade. I have a dusky-dark skin and it washes me out :( Unlucky me. This shade grapefruit jelly, though looks natural is more on the paler side thus making it not so suitable for darker skin tones. The shade on the swatch is just untrue to how it looks on the pan. This blush gives a natural pink shade to fairer cheeks.(Just pink and nothing else) It doesn't even show up on me and if I try to over build, it washes me out! Even though it doesn't suit me, I wore it a whole day to test the staying power etc. This blush stays good for 5-6 hours (It doesn't show up on me much so I am not sure about this part) and then fades away evenly. If you're fair skinned, you can go for this blush. Those who own a pale white skin can use this blush to give a beautiful natural pink flush to their cheeks! Overall, I would say this is a good natural pink blush for the price. They provide a huge quantity too.

• I agree that the applicator puff is cute; but when it comes to blushing, it is of no use
• This shades washes out dusky-dark skin tones
• The shade on the pan and the shade on the cheeks looks entirely different!
